IT company Intel must strike the right balance between "speed and power efficiency" if it wants to successfully enter the crowded smartphone market as "increase in one usually comes at the expense of the other," according to Andy Betts, editor of Smartphone Daily.
"It might actually prove that Intel has more success powering the new tablets that will emerge over the next couple of years rather than in smartphones," Mr Betts said.
He went on to say that the Silicon company will also need to get its chips into smartphones in the first place, most of which currently use ARM-based chips. He added that Intel's partnership with Nokia on the MeeGo platform will provide the firm with a foothold in the market at least.
Separately, brand loyalty is far greater among smartphone owners of newer handset brands such as Apple and Blackberry than it is among smartphone owners of traditional brands, according to a new survey by YouGov.
The use of smartphone technology is a topic that could be taught in IT training.
