The use of indoor base stations, known as femtocells, is revolutionising the telecommunications industry, an expert has said.
Femtocells have been "causing a major stir in the telecoms industry as they represent a major new opportunity for economically delivering increased mobile broadband coverage and data speeds," according to Simon Saunders, chairman of the Femto Forum.
Mr Saunders went on to say that their popularity comes from their "solid, reliable voice coverage to all existing 3G phones."
His views emerged as Vodafone rebranded and relaunched its femtocell product.
The 'Sure Signal' device allows users to extend the 3G network coverage of their home or office.
In other news, Google's voice search function, Google Voice, offers new opportunities for software developers, according to Andrew Pouros, chief operations officer for search marketing consultancy Greenlight.
Mr Pouros said Google Voice is "more than just speaking your search terms to instigate a query".
