Employees treating work computers like home machines are putting UK businesses at risk when downloading illegally on the web, according to the Federation Against Software Theft and Investors in Software (FAST IiS).
"Downloading what looks like free software from P2P sites is not recommended. At the very least it's against the law if the software should be purchased and there's a high likelihood of malware being a free and silent add-on," said FAST IiS chief executive John Lovelock
In other news, the government needs to be more proactive in encouraging innovation, an expert has been quoted as saying.
"When it comes to innovation there's a lot the government can do, and there's a lot they should not do," the president of the Consumer Electronics Association Gary Shapiro was quoted as saying by the BBC.
Mr Shapiro went on to say that the government "doesn't spur innovation or entrepreneurship. The government often gets in the way."
