IT workers migrate abroad

UK-based IT executives are increasingly looking to move abroad to find employment, according to new research.

Experteer, the online career service, discovered - in a study of 13,000 executives across Europe - that IT was the most likely sector to experience cross-border migration by staff.

The survey found that 11 per cent of the IT staff questioned said that they had moved countries within the last year to find new employment.

Torsten Muth, managing director of Experteer UK, believes that many IT workers are looking abroad because of the current financial climate in this country.

He said: "The economic downturn in countries like the UK is one of many reasons … and with IT it doesn't really matter where you are - the language barrier is much less."

Last month, Barclays Bank confirmed that it will be offshore as many as 1,800 UK IT jobs over the next three years.
