A leading IT expert has called on businesses to establish an IT strategy to encourage employees to use technology more efficiently.
In particular Ben Camm-Jones, editor of Web User, singles out email as one area where office workers are in need of formal training to ensure they are working to maximum rates of productivity.
He emphasised the need for staff to complete IT training courses in order to establish an email culture that is not disruptive or causes time-wasting.
He commented: "Training needs to be offered to staff so they can deal with email effectively and perhaps bosses need to look at time-management training as well, to ensure that employees are aware of all the things they can do to be more effective in their jobs."
Mr Camm-Jones added that businesses should encourage staff to enter into a constructive dialogue with managers to create a positive email culture.
An 18-month study of 3,650 office workers, commissioned by Expert Messaging, revealed that email users receive around 34 emails per day, 47 per cent of which bear no relation to their job.
