The IT industry, along with the communications sector, is not about to be short of people with skills like IT training, despite rising vacancies and fewer candidates, according to David Fleming, associate director of recruitment firm Badenoch & Clark.
"A lot of organisations cut very deep in ICT last year and are making up for it now, so we're seeing quite a big pick-up in demand," said Mr Fleming.
Although the number of available applicants per position decreased in the same quarter, the expert said the industry was "way off having a skills shortage."
He was commenting on a report published by e-skills UK which found that ICT vacancies rose by eight per cent in the third quarter of 2010, with positions for contractors up 11 per cent.
"There are certain newer technologies where staff are in more demand, but it is still a market whereby there are a lot of people out there looking for work," he said, adding that like any other industry, if people have a specific skill then they become quite a "desirable" worker.
