Those committed to self-development by increasing their IT knowledge have better chances of securing a job, according to Georgina Read, HR expert and co-founder of Reabur Ltd, a leading South West-based HR consultancy.
"People who have the technical 'know-how' to use devices such as smartphones will inevitably give the impression that they understand and feel comfortable in using modern technology - an important factor for most organisations nowadays," she said.
The expert went on to say that an increasing number of businesses expect their employees to be reachable both in the office and when out and about. Enterprises provide electrical devices like laptops and Blackberries so employees can engage in communication outside the workplace, Ms Read said.
"Certainly in the global business world, technology is increasingly important to ensure deadlines are met and location doesn't impact upon service delivery," the expert added.
She said those successful would be the ones passionate about gadgets and people who take IT training seriously: "People who are passionate about gadgets, aspire to have a career in IT and continually expand their skill set alongside developing technologies may well succeed."
