IT training: Those who have "grown up with IT" may consider a career in it

This generation may consider IT "more as a career because they're so used to using it on a day-to-day basis", according to Maggie Berry, managing director of womenintechnology.co.uk.

It will be interesting to see whether "this next generation coming through that have grown up with IT" will work in technology, she said.

The expert went on to say that children are now being exposed to technology from the age of "six or seven" when they first get mobile phones, a factor that contributes to making it easier for them to take up IT training.

While it may not lead them to careers in IT, "a lot of women are adopting mobile technology", she added.

"They're on their mobile much more than the guys are and they use those channels of communication much more widely," she said.

Her comments emerged as a report by the European Commission published this month revealed children are going online younger than ever.
