People with IT training looking to make a move from the public to the private IT sector could find it challenging, according to Maggie Berry, managing director of womenintechnology.co.uk.
Ms Berry said she is "fully expecting" there to be "swathes of cuts" and speculated that this could lead to more public sector IT workers looking for work in the private sector.
She went on to say, however, that it is "traditionally quite difficult to make that move from public sector IT into private sector IT."
"It's not actually the retraining or re-skilling, it's sometimes just the perception of the skills that you're bringing and how different it is working in the private sector," Ms Berry added.
She said the nature of the work can make the transition difficult because people's priorities have to do with profit and not with the actual service.
Ms Berry was speaking at 360°IT, an IT infrastructure event which took place at Earls Court in London last month.
