IT suppliers must target specific needs in the following years to make sure they tap into government spending, according to a market expert.
Jan Duffy, research director at the IDC, said suppliers should meet the need for modern infrastructures and application capabilities, streamlined processes as well as cost containment or reduction.
Her views emerged as a new report said that government spending on hardware, software and IT services in Western Europe is likely to increase from $56.6 billion in 2008 to $68.5 billion in 2013.
Of the leading economies in Western Europe, the UK is going to be the highest spender on IT in 2010, according to IDC.
In other news, one in five businesses will move to scrap their IT infrastructure in 2010, a market expert has predicted.
Steve Prentice, vice-president of Gartner, explained that the move will not involve "large businesses with data centres, but small and medium companies and start-ups. Why build a data centre when you could have access to someone else's?"
