IT staff integral to business survival

14:04 21st August 2008

IT professionals are too integral to business survival for employers to risk losing them during the credit crunch, a technology skills expert has claimed.

However, there will be more pressure on IT staff to demonstrate a variety of up-to-date skills, as recruitment stalls across all sectors and companies spike salaries to attract and retain technology employees.

A recent survey by IT recruitment group ReThink Recruitment disclosed that 49 per cent of UK IT directors expect to increase permanent staff numbers over the next year.

Matthew Poyiadgi, vice president at Computing Technology Industry Association (CompTIA), predicted that IT workers will become skilled in more areas.

He explained: "Employees will know that those who have several strings to their bow will have an edge over their peers when it comes to the crunch."

CompTIA is the voice of the world's £1.5 trillion information technology industry and has members in more than 100 countries.
