According to US advisors Computer Electronics, IT spending is set to increase in many sectors.
Based on its poll of more than 200 IT executives, the company has concluded that the computer industry is not suffering from recession in the same way it did in 2001.
The firm's report, IT Spending and Staffing Benchmarks 2009 - 2010 explains that the current recession "is being led by the real estate sector, the credit crisis, and pullbacks in consumer spending".
It also notes that cutbacks in the industry have been kept to a minimum thanks to the "fiscal discipline that IT executives have been demonstrating".
Research by the firm also revealed that banking and finance organisations have increased their IT operation spending by 4.9 per cent, while the healthcare sector has shown growth of 4.7 per cent.
By encouraging staff onto more computer courses, firms help increase their workers' skills, which could help improve productivity.
Such is the growing popularity of smaller Netbook computers they are to lead computer sales in the coming year, say analyst Gartner.
