The number of IT companies re-evaluating their disaster recovery plans with virtualisation is increasing, a new survey has revealed.
Symantec conducted its fourth annual IT disaster recovery survey and discovered that there has been a significant decline in executive involvement in information retrieval, as more applications are managed in virtual environments.
The survey's results indicated that corporate-level involvement in recovery planning has decreased, with only 33 per cent of companies having an information officer, technology officer or IT director on their disaster committees.
Symantec believe that this is a troubling trend as increased executive involvement has been shown to increase the success of retrieval plans.
In addition, the poll revealed that one-third of organisations had to execute these plans last year, 36 per cent of which were down to hardware or software failure and 28 per cent due to external security threats.
In other news, a recruitment firm has claimed that the increasing movement of IT professionals will stabilise in the current financial climate.
