Two-thirds of IT professionals are failing to take action in driving green IT schemes in their workplaces, a new survey has revealed.
The independent poll of 304 IT workers, commissioned by Parity, disclosed that despite 98 per cent of those questioned wanting their organisation to put sustainable practices in place, only a third admitted to taking any action themselves.
In addition, the study disclosed that 40 per cent of respondents suggested that the biggest barrier to the implementation of environmentally friendly programmes is behavioural and culture change.
Rick Firth, managing director at Parity, identified that IT managers must ensure employees are trained sufficiently in these areas.
He said: "It is important that people have an accurate picture of how IT can contribute to their company's environmental strategy, and for the overall vision to translate into individuals' activities."
Last month, Computer Aid International called on the government to do more to prevent the UK's electrical waste from being illegally exported and dumped in countries like Ghana, Nigeria and China.
