The trade association for the UK technology sector has highlighted the pivotal role that IT will undertake in delivering the 2012 London Olympics.
Intellect claimed that the successful completion of London's promise to provide a green, secure and integrated Olympics rests on IT services.
ICT will support over 205 international sporting organisations, 20,000 worldwide media, nine million spectators and over four billion viewers for the games.
The aspiration is to deliver the first Olympics 3.0, with spectators able to enjoy multiple viewpoints, real-time Games updates and live travel information through mobile devices.
Carrie Hartnell, transformational business programme manager, explained that come 2012 technology will be central to London's games and its legacy.
She said: "Broadcasting, ticketing, venue management, security and transportation will be delivered through innovative and interconnected technological solutions."
Last month, E-skills claimed that the UK will fall behind the rest of the global economy if it cannot produce the next generation of skilled IT professionals.
