IT leaders have been urged to make technology integral to their organisations efforts to cut carbon emissions.
The Communications Managers Association (CMA), an independent body for IT professionals, has combined with the Carbon Trust to develop best practice guidelines on how businesses can reduce their ecological footprint.
The project, titled Carbon Intent, profiles companies that deploy green products and suggests ways in which firms can realise carbon savings, including teleconferencing and home-working.
Glenn Powell, CMA chief executive, said: "The aim is to create industry-wide guidelines and benchmarks that any ICT professional anywhere can tap into for assistance.
"We propose to draw together and share examples of current best practices from video-conferencing to logistics and transport planning to home working."
The Carbon Trust is a government funded company which helps businesses and the public sector to cut carbon emissions.
