IT industry workers 'contemplating taking their skills elsewhere'

As the UK gradually emerges out of the economic slump, IT industry workers are setting their eyes elsewhere, according to Alexandra Farrell, managing director of the IT Job Board.

"UK businesses could be in for a shock, as we climb out of recession. Clearly, large numbers of highly skilled workers are contemplating their futures, and considering the possibility of taking their precious skills elsewhere," Ms Farrelll said.

The expert went on to say the industry could see "movement" among IT contractors. She said she has been alarmed at the high number of permanent workers looking to make a move in the short-term future.

Her comments emerged as The IT Job Board's Job Market Survey revealed there is a real threat of skills loss to the industry with 42 per cent of IT professionals actively seeking work.

"Losing such highly qualified payroll staff could have a serious impact on companies' IT departments," she added.
