The majority of IT directors believe that salaries for permanent IT staff will increase over the next year, new research has disclosed.
Despite the tough economic climate, a survey by the recruitment firm Rethink Recruitment revealed that 55 per cent of respondents believed that pay rates will rise in the next 12 months - while 45 per cent expected no change at all.
The survey of chief information officers also discovered that 58 per cent of those questioned said that they planned to increase IT projects next year, illustrating that the credit crunch is doing little to dampen the industry's confidence.
"IT directors are reasonably confident about the outlook over the next 12 months, despite lingering economic uncertainty," said Michael Bennett, director at Rethink Recruitment.
Earlier this month, the Association of Graduate Recruiters revealed that the average starting salary for IT workers increased to £25,000 in 2007.
