IT industry urged to tackle security issues in cloud computing

13:45 3rd November 2009

The IT industry needs to tackle security concerns relating to cloud computing technology, an expert has claimed.

Although cloud computing has the potential to significantly enhance business operations and could offer a new way for the IT industry to bolster business performance during the economic downturn, there remain some concerns about the security of using the technology.

Martin Harris, director of product management at cloud management software company Platform Computing, has said that such concerns are "justified", meaning the IT industry needs to get a greater grip on the way in which cloud computing is delivered and the security implications for businesses.

According to a recent survey carried out by analyst consulting firm the Taneja Group, 82 per cent of the senior IT managers polled do not use hosted environments outside their own firewalls, mainly due to lack of control and immature technology.
