IT industry urged to do more on tackling malware
12:45 2nd October 2009
The IT industry needs to take a lead on tackling cyber crime, along with every individual who uses the internet, it has been claimed.
US officials have claimed all individuals who use the internet have a duty to "practice good 'cyber hygiene'".
It is hoped the move will encourage more people to update security software and report attacks so that the IT industry can deal more effectively with the threats.
The US government has recently agreed to relinquish some of its grip over the internet, in a move that could help to encourage innovation and new developments in the IT industry.
However, it appears that the US is still keen to ensure people are doing their bit to prevent cyber crime by putting the onus on every computer user to be vigilant and wary of threats.
