IT industry to increase staff levels

15:45 15th August 2008

Half of IT directors will increase staff levels over the next 12 months, despite the continuing economic slowdown, new research has indicated.

Rethink Recruitment surveyed 47 IT directors on their staffing plans and found that 49 per cent intended to increase the number of their workforce, while only 13 per cent anticipated job cuts.

In addition, most IT directors expect their project workloads to increase in the next 12 months as organisations look to IT to deliver productivity gains as the financial markets slow.

Michael Bennett, director of ReThink Recruitment, said: "Spending on IT during a slowdown can deliver significant efficiency gains and boost competitive advantage, which can lead to greater cost savings over the longer term.

"Organisations are increasingly recognising this," he added.

Earlier this week, ReThink Recruitment claimed that a growing number of IT professionals are favouring contract work over permanent employment, thanks to the better pay conditions.
