IT industry to benefit from internet changes

13:29 29th September 2009

The US is set to loosen its stranglehold on the internet, in a move that could help increase worldwide developments in the IT industry.

The US is set to sign an accord with international regulator Icann that will see it agreeing to relax control over how the internet is run, meaning that other countries and businesses around the globe could be able to have a greater input into the future development of the internet.

Such a development is an important step in the IT industry, because the growth of social media and other formats have already pushed the boundaries of what can be achieved on the internet, but the IT industry could yet go further.

The news may also come as a boost to those in IT training, as it could help engender new job opportunities.

A recent survey of IT managers carried out on behalf of BCS, the Chartered Institute for IT, found businesses are increasingly recognising the importance of good IT training to enhancing their operations, particularly during the current global recession.
