Government proposals to introduce a minimum internet speed of two megabits per second (Mbps) by 2012 has continued to be derided by the IT industry.
While those in the IT industry working in more rural parts of the country may be glad to see the government is looking to deliver broadband technology to every internet connection in Britain, they remain concerned that the targeted speed is already too slow.
Independent internet news, listings, reviews and discussion website ISPreview.co.uk has warned that the 2Mbps aim is already "too little, too late".
Mark Jackson, editor-in-chief at the website, explained that unless the government ups its target, commercial companies will only roll out superfast services such as 20Mbps or even 50Mbps to urban areas that are easy to connect up to.
A recent survey conducted by omnibus survey provider ICM found that four out of ten respondents would be put off moving to a new area if it had slow broadband speed and unreliable network connection.
