IT industry sees server virtualisation soar

16:15 1st October 2009

Research has revealed a surge in the demand for server virtualisation technology within the IT industry.

According to a study carried out by independent IT management software company CA and business infrastructure virtualisation solution providers VMware, virtualisation is becoming increasingly popular because it is becoming more advanced and so is capable of delivering real savings and benefits to companies.

People considering a career in IT may want to take up IT training in the virtualisation sector to discover more of the emerging technology, which could have a huge impact on the way businesses operate in the future.

Chris Bone, enterprise products and solutions specialist at IT and communications solutions provider Fujitsu, explained: "The reason server virtualisation has taken off to such an extent is because of the maturity of the platform."

However, he added there is still plenty of room for growth in the market, with "less than ten per cent of server infrastructure out there being virtualised".

The study concluded organisations virtualising business critical systems should adopt specific risk reduction procedures and controls depending on how sophisticated the technology they are introducing is.
