Almost half of all teenagers would consider a career in IT if the industry's image was more exciting, a new survey carried out by the IT supplier Logicalis has shown.
The UK Realtime Generation poll 2008 found that only 12 per cent of teenagers had considered a career in IT, but that another 35 per cent would if they could find something in IT that interested them.
This survey, conducted on 1,000 13 to 17-year-olds, discovered that teenagers are aware of the advantages of web 2.0 technology, such as social networking, and would be more tempted into IT if they could see how businesses are using them.
Chris Gabriel, marketing and solutions director at Logicalis, believed that the results of the poll are positive.
He said: "This indicates that you can close the skills gap because these teenagers are very good at using IT."
Earlier this week, IT professional said that "interesting and challenging work" is the main thing they look for when job hunting.
