IT industry 'not missing out on broadband'

15:40 5th October 2009

Britain's IT industry is not suffering from a lack of investment in its broadband infrastructure, an expert has claimed.

Despite the country coming 25th out of 66 in a recent global survey by networking giant Cisco, the editor of broadband comparison website Broadband Genie has pointed out that the broadband network is constantly evolving and therefore such surveys may not provide a full picture on the state of Britain's broadband development.

"Advances in broadband will make way for consumer applications such as 3D TV and 360-degree TV, but this technology is only just poking its head above water," Chris Marling explained.

The government is investing huge sums of money into the UK's broadband infrastructure to ensure the whole country has access to at least two megabits per second connections by 2012.

Such investment could increase the potential for the IT industry to develop its presence, as well as encouraging more people to take up distance learning courses.
