Getting students motivated to engage in elearning practices is hardly a problem, according to David Guralnick, president of the International E-Learning Association (IELA).
"In building hundreds of simulations, we have not found motivation to be a problem - quite the contrary," he said.
He recognised, however, that if you ask students to click a next button, read, click again -that is the kind of elearning that won't inspire people.
In his view, he said, the e-learning user experience is still, for the most part, an underappreciated area.
"E-learning design is really about what you're teaching, the goals, and the audience, and coming up with engaging and effective methods. There's a tremendous amount that can be done, we just don't see enough of it right now," he added.
