IT industry news: YouGov to name worst performing ISPs

15:28 24th November 2010

Market research company YouGov is to partner with broadband analysts Epitiro to gauge the performance of the UK's broadband suppliers.

The two companies will combine to gather people's opinions of broadband provision throughout the UK and will name the companies failing to supply the advertised internet speed, reports V3.co.uk.

People considering networking courses may be aware that consumers are regularly dissatisfied with their broadband speed and a report released recently by comparison site Broadband Expert has revealed that most people in the UK do not believe ISPs can provide a satisfactory service.

"As consumers become more tech-savvy and willing to [switch to another provider], ISPs need to manage satisfaction and network performance," said Marek Vaygelt, head of consumer, technology and telecoms consulting at YouGov.

However, the comparison sites poll also showed that only five per cent of respondents think the government will deliver on its promise of a super-fast network.

Virgin Media announced today that is considering launching a nationwide Wi-Fi network that would allow people to browse at higher speeds while on the move.
