IT industry news: Windows 7 'drives boom in the UK IT hardware sales'

05:38 7th December 2010

The recent growth in the IT hardware market in Britain has been boosted by the positive reception of the Windows 7 operating system and its subsequent adoption by computer users, according to PC Advisor.

The surge is "probably down to Windows 7 to a large extent. For a long time people were content to sit and wait it out until Microsoft came up with a compelling operating system", said Rosemary Hattersley, associate editor of PC Advisor.

The expert believes Microsoft's new software has managed to prove to users it is reliable and as a result computer users are now thinking about getting new hardware to go alongside it.

Separately, there is continued demand for IT hardware in the UK, with sales of computers, printers and peripherals in 2010 increasing by 11 per cent on the previous year, according to the latest report from the European Information Technology Observatory published last month.
