Mobile internet users will be more attracted to free Wi-Fi services than 3G as the number of hot spots in Britain grows, according to Edd Dawson, managing director of broadband.co.uk.
"It's going to be good for people the more Wi-Fi spots there are available, especially on phones - it's much more desirable than using 3G," he said.
His comments emerged as more companies provide users with free Wi-Fi. Earlier last month, O2 said it will be providing visitors to certain venues with a public Wi-Fi platform which will allow people with Wi-Fi activated devices to go on line.
In two years, O2 is hoping to provide almost [as REMOVE] twice the number of premium hotspots as the three major Wi-Fi providers combined.
Mr Dawson speculated that O2 might be making an effort to get users to use a Wi-Fi connection as opposed to mobile broadband. "That could be one of the reasons that they're doing it for free," he said.
