Voice over Internet Protocol, or VoIP, is gradually becoming more popular across the UK, according to Trefor Davies council member at The Internet Telephony Services Providers' Association (Itspa).
He said the so-called VoIP revolution has already taken place since most companies phone systems sold are now VoIP.
"Whilst you might still be using your old fashioned telephone, the call may well be carried using VoIP, especially if it is to an international destination," he explained.
But he added: "What we have not yet seen is the whole country moving over to the use of VoIP phones, but this is only a matter of time and is something that is happening gradually."
In other related news, David Cargill, a council member of the Internet Telephony Service Providers' Association, has said VoIP provides more accessible solutions than the traditional telephony systems.
