Online piracy is denting the video industry as a result of an increase of broadband speed, according to Jared Moya, chief editor of technology portal Zeropaid.com.
"As consumers continue the switch to broadband connections and ever faster connection speeds it's become increasingly easy to download video content," he said.
High-definition (HD) video, which had "previously been beyond the limits" of less advanced internet connections, can now be downloaded, the expert said.
"Until recently" the movie industry had "enjoyed a sort of reprieve from the kind of market disruptions that the digital revolution has wrought on the music industry," Mr Moya explained.
He also said that even for those with slower broadband connections it is still "possible to view pirated content" via streaming sites.
His comments emerged as a chart published late March by BitTorrent news weblog TorrentFreak showed limitless topped the most downloaded movies on BitTorrent chart during the last week of March.
