Firms in the U.K. with better access to broadband are performing better than those with less access, according to Dr. Charles Trotman, head of rural business development for the Country Land and Business Association,
"Urban businesses are outperforming rural businesses because they've got these broadband connections, they can do business overseas and our members can't," he explained.
The expert went on to say that everyone in the U.K. can have access to either fixed line or satellite internet.
But, he said, those outside the main urban areas, can only rely on satellite.
"It tends to be a lot more expensive than fixed line - and you can understand why. You've also got the problem with latency as well - the distance the signal has to travel from the box or satellite dish to the satellite then back again," the expert said.
His comments followed research that showed wireless services like mobile applications, data, voice, and streaming and broadcast video, global wireless bandwidth usage has increased ten-fold since 2008 and it seems it will continue to grow, according to In-Stat research.
