IT industry news: 'Updating browsers is an issue in the workplace'

The issue of browser choice is particularly relevant in the workplace, according to Rowland O'Connor, editor of Broadband-Help.com, a publications that deals with topics in the IT industry.

"The problem of updating browsers is more of an issue in the business environment where obstacles to the update include having to perform rigorous compatibility testing with large numbers of workstations," Mr O'Connor said.

The expert said that updating browsers for the general public was something they did less frequently and through their own choice or auto updated packages delivered through software like Windows or Firefox.

He highlighted the advantages that come with updating a browser, including improved security and functionality.

The government claimed earlier this month that it wasn't as easy for government departments to upgrade IE (Internet Exporer) versions on their systems. This was in response to a petition urging them to move away from Internet Explorer 6.
