Despite developments in the IT industry, game companies need tax breaks to avoid loosing talent abroad, according to Jamie Sefton, sector manager at Game Republic.
The Independent Games Developers' Association, a trade association, recently restated the case for tax relief in response to the government's growth review, and also outlined other measures to boost the industry, such as greater investment in higher education.
"On paper, even though we have the talent in this country, financially it's hard to make the case," said Mr Sefton.
"The fact is that other countries like Canada do have a huge advantage on the world stage. There isn't a level playing field - we will continue to lose talent abroad if the situation stays as it is," he said
The argument for tax breaks will continue, Mr Sefton said, adding that "while the industry in this country is fantastic, it would help having tax breaks".
