IT industry news: Tips to avoid sending irrelevant CVs

Applicants to new jobs should be wary of sending irrelevant CVs, which has been the top complaint from employers in the UK.

This is the view of Tony Roy, president of CareerBuilder EMEA, one of the most visited online job sites in the United Kingdom. CareerBuilder powers the career centres for hundreds of UK sites that reach national, local, industry and niche audiences.

"If you don't make your skills and experience relevant to the position and employer at hand, your CV will likely end up in the trash bin," he said.?

The expert said that another common mistake job applicants make is presenting data to potential employers is in huge chunks of text.

He said some HR departments would spend less than 30 seconds to initially review a CV and a job application.

"You need to make it easy for employers to zero in on required skills and accomplishments, so your CV ends up in the 'Yes' pile. Use concise statements and bullets to highlight key points in your career," Mr Roy added.
