IT industry news: Technology 'has allowed people to work around their lifestyle'

09:23 6th August 2010

Advances in the IT industry have allowed people to work around their lifestyle, according to Andrew Millard, EMEA director of marketing and e-commerce for the EMEA at Citrix Online, the remote services company.

Mr Millard said people no longer worked the traditional nine to five job but that instead they had a series of tasks that you needed to complete, and it almost didn't matter where you were.

He also said that the developments in the IT industry brought to the workplace has allowed employees to be able to work from home more easily.

His remarks followed a report from Reed Specialist Recruitment which revealed that less people are working the traditional nine to five job, in favour of more flexible hours.

The expert added that people are now "working around their lifestyles", a practice that is now possible thanks to the accessibility of work documents outside of the office.

Events like the volcanic ash cloud and severe weather conditions will continue to drive this change in working habits, he said.
