The tablet computer market could be worth about £25 billion next year, according to Richard Sharp, editor of gadgetsandgizmos.org.
"The tablet market is already big business and is clearly still in its infancy. Many analysts believe that the tablet market will be worth $40 billion [£25 billion] by the end of 2011. This shows there is plenty more tablets on the scene in the near future," Mr Sharp said.
His comments emerged as Research In Motion (RIM) is set to launch the BlackBerry PlayBook, a new tablet computer.
He said the new Blackberry PlayBook will initially be aimed at business consumers, and that RIM has said that the device will not be accessible to the general public until the beginning of next year.
He said, however, that this new tablet computer will be appealing to everyday consumers if they have the software, apps and if the price was right.
Separately, Dell CEO Michael Dell unveiled a prototype of a 7-inch Android tablet computer.
