Interest in networking courses may soon rise as the University of Wales announced that it will partner with technology firm Fujitsu to construct a cutting-edge supercomputer network.
The Japanese company won a bid to create a £40 million network, research and development institute and skills academy and will provide a huge boost to the country's IT industry.
Funding for the project will come from the Welsh Assembly Government, EU Convergence programmes, the UK Department for Business, Innovation and Skills as well as the private sector.
Fujitsu will provide infrastructure and services to the project, worth £15 million over four years.
When completed, High Performance Computing Wales will posses a supercomputing network that will be unrivaled anywhere else in Europe.
A spokesperson for Fujitsu said: "We're confident that our work with HPC Wales will bring significant technology, skills, research, jobs and economic development to the region."
Lesley Griffiths, the Welsh Assembly Government's deputy minister for science, innovation and skills, welcomed the project saying it presented a valuable opportunity for businesses and universities to work in close harmony.
