The UK government must be more proactive in urging enterprises to adopt the right IT tools to make British cities more environmentally sustainable, according to Dan Ilett, editor in chief of Greenbang.com.
"A lot of the emphasis on clean tech projects in this country have been about energy generation from renewables, and that area certainly has hit a wall trying to extend - there aren't necessarily enough incentives for people or companies to get involved," he said.
His views coincided with a study published by Ernst and Young, which surveyed 529 companies in Britain. The survey revealed that just 13 per cent think authorities in the UK will set the right environment for success in the clean tech sector this year, compared with 38 per cent from a similar poll carried out between August and October in 2010.
Mr Ilett emphasised that the solutions for greener cities in the UK may already be available but that firms have been slow in taking them up.
