There will be an increase in popularity in the use of smartwatches, which combine the features of smartphones and watches, according to Ariel Adams, editor-in-chief of timepieces site ABlogtoRead.com.
"I'd say looking forward you're going to have those people that are traditionalists and want the sophistication of a mechanical watch and the beauty thereof, and the gadget people - who are going to come back to watches en masse because the functionality is going to be there to make it worth their while," he said.
He highlighted recent examples of manufacturers combining the technology of a smartphone and a traditional watch. Casio launched its G-Shock watch, which has Bluetooth which integrates with mobile phones in a much more sophisticated way.
"You have phones that are watches and in the next three or four years, you're going to have a lot more interesting stuff coming out," he said.
