More cyber criminals are likely to increase their attack against smartphones as people use them more frequently, according to Tony Neate, managing director of Get Safe Online.
"People who are using smartphones must realise that they must take secondary precautions in relation to protecting their phones.," he added.
Smartphones can use protection which works similar to an anti-virus and security packages on their PC and their laptops, the expert added.
Mr Neate said that depending on the type of phone people have they should think about extra safety measures.
"This [smartphone viruses] has been a fear for the last couple of years, but now we're actually seeing it taking place, especially because of the increase in apps that are downloaded onto it," he said.
In other news, Costs of people using their mobile phones within the European Union should be cut permanently, according to Jonathan Morris, editor of What Mobile.
