The IT industry has experienced a "sea of change" in attitudes people have towards it, according to Gerry McLaughlin, of ITContractor.com. ?
"In previous downturns IT was seen as a cost and, as with the marketing budget, it was easy to cut," said Mr McLaughlin. "However, this time around IT was seen as both a cost-cutting enabler and as too crucial to the business."
He went on to say that in this new generation, where information is key, access to business information is seen as "the biggest differentiator". He said businesses were reluctant to come out of recession a couple of years behind their rivals in terms of the software components of their products and services.?
In other IT industry news, there are higher than average levels of that confidence in the IT industry, according to the the latest quarterly workforce report from e-skills UK. ?
Demand for staff among IT firms increased by five per cent during the first three months of 2010, in contrast to a two per cent decline in the UK as a whole.
