Those living in rural Britain could take advantages of the benefits offered by satellite broadband, according to Michael Phillips, product director at Broadbandchoices.co.uk.
Mr Phillips said satellite broadband "is most suitable for people who are getting download speeds of less than 1mbps and have explored various different suppliers for their postcode".
He said this is when satellite broadband turns into an alternative "because usually when you're in a rural area it is unlikely that you can be served mobile broadband at 3G connectivity anymore than you can be served by the ADSL network".
The expert went on to say this type of broadband can be accessed from any point in the country, while BT ADSL reaches almost 100 per cent of households.
?In other IT industry news, consumers won't feel the benefits of Ofcom's initiative to cut down on the wholesale prices for broadband and landline, according to Richard Patterson, director of broadband comparison site BroadbandExpert.co.uk.
