Costs of people using their mobile phones within the European Union should be cut permanently, according to Jonathan Morris, editor of What Mobile.
Mr. Morris said the cost of mobile data is "still too expensive" as the European Commission announced that mobile roaming tariffs for both calls and data use across EU states have been lowered again.
Separately, a survey of over 2,000 people by the Carphone Warehouse also revealed that 62 per cent of respondents had been stung by meteoric mobile data bills from time spent abroad.
"The industry needs to just cut the rates and cut the rates permanently – not try to do it as a promotion, or as bolt-ons, or by making you sign up to a new contract," he said.
Mr Morris went on to say that mobile data prices can still be inflated by mobile network operators, who are free to add extra charges to their basic internet tariffs.
