Retailers must quickly adapt to new technology platforms and incorporate them into the shopping experience they provide customers in order to satisfy their hunger for the latest technological advances, according to Andy Mulcahy, communications executive for the Interactive Media in Retail Group.
"People are really good in this country at adapting to technology, certainly a lot faster than retailers are able to keep up with," he said. "Because consumer behaviour has got like that already, retail is just going to have to adapt to it."
Mr Mulcahy recognised some retailers do move fast and consumers in the UK should expect to see an enhanced shopping experience through new technologies as companies are more aware that both the online and the physical world complement each other.
His forecast emerged as Cisco said earlier this month there is a strong interest among UK shoppers in shopping environments that mix online information and services with a physical browsing experience.
