New online start-ups are set to grow as a source of self-employment, according to Chris Wickson, co-founder of Ratemyplacement.co.uk.
"You're going to see a lot of start-ups coming out from students who are either at university or have come from the graduate market realising that there are not enough jobs out there for them," Mr Wickson said.
The expert said that people just out of university are more likely to start a new business because they are less committed to paying a mortgage or looking after a family.
Mr Wickson also said he expected online business to see a huge boost since students are attuned with everything related to online activities.
His remarks followed a prediction by the Federation of Small Businesses that there will be a boom in the amount of people who become self-employed to compensate for high unemployment.
