IT industry news: Moving to the cloud 'to be advantageous to small companies'

Those companies opting for less complicated IT infrastructures like cloud computing could see real benefits, according to Michael Dean, head of marketing at the National Computing Centre, pointing out that larger businesses have more problems migrating quickly.

"Large organisations with complex infrastructures may need time to understand how to make the most effective transition, but smaller organisations with simpler infrastructures are likely to see the advantages and move more quickly," he said.

However, some businesses leaders are put off by concerns about how to make the move to cloud services, the expert claimed.

"There is still a lot of trepidation and only a small fraction of organisations are actually doing anything serious," he explained.

His comments emerged as Research by 2e2 recently revealed that 68 per cent of firms believe that there were significant downfalls in moving to cloud computing.

The study also found 56 per cent of respondents fear they will have less say over the enterprises general IT systems.
