The majority of the adult population in the UK has been the victim of cybercrime as development in the IT industry continues, according to Con Mallon, security expert at Norton.
The expert highlighted the recent Norton Cybercrime Report which revealed that over 59 per cent of adults in the UK have at some point been a victim of cybercrime.
"Today cybercriminals use many different methods to gain access to people's private information and the main emotions they tend to exploit are fear and trust, and this is where we can sometimes be caught out," Mr Mallon said.
People should safeguard their personal information and check bank accounts regularly to avoid falling victim to cybercrime, the expert suggested.
His remarks emerged after the Unisys Security Index said that nearly one in ten Brits have switched banks or retailers because they were unhappy with the way they protected their identity or privacy.
