IT industry news: More security software 'needed for mobile phones'

More effort needs to be put into enhancing the security of mobile phone platforms, according to Martyn Ruks, technical director at MWR InfoSecurity.

Mobile users need to ask for more features that will provide security to their handsets, he said.

"The users asking for the functionality to be able to protect themselves is one thing, but then that pressure should lead to other solutions within security software; for example anti-virus solutions on those phones which look at the ways in which an attacker may well want to try and attack those phones," Mr Ruks said.

Separately, mobile phone users are three times more vulnerable to phishing attacks than desktop users, according to research by Trusteer.

The research also revealed that those who use mobile phones to access phishing sites are three times more likely to submit their login info than those with a desktop computer. Meanwhile, eight times more iPhone users accessed these phishing websites than Blackberry users.
